Jesus loves a good party!
This year I will learn to celebrate and party with Jesus even better.
The Kingdom of God is a Party
Jesus confronted the religious leaders because they criticized him for his lifestyle. He said, “You said John the Baptist had a devil in him because he fasted and didn’t drink alcohol. I eat and drink and you call me a glutton and drunkard” (Luke 7:32-34).
The religious leaders also were upset that Jesus hung out with sinners and lowlifes.
My word for the year: Celebrate
I haven’t been very good at celebrating. Holidays, birthdays, even things I accomplish, I rarely stop and celebrate. My usual course of action is to give a slight nod of acknowledgement and then move on to “more important” things.
But this year I will learn to celebrate. And, yes, this is a spiritual growth point for me. God reminded me of the command to celebrate that he gave in Deuteronomy 14:22-26. God commanded the people of Israel to bring a tithe. But what I often missed is that the purpose was to throw a party and celebrate.
And beer was on the menu! So “beer with Jesus” isn’t a new idea at all.
Learning to dance
I remembered a song about celebration and I decided to make it my theme song for the year. And I’m going to learn to dance. I plan to play this song at least once a month and dance. It will be a good way to keep my word fresh in my mind over the year. The link is here if you want to join in and party with Jesus and me.
