Christmas is supposed to be about Jesus.
It’s easy to forget about Jesus in all the chaos that comes with Christmas.
I don’t quite hate Christmas like I used to.
Christmas is supposed to be a time of “peace on earth” and “joy to the world.” But some of us have come to dread the forced festiveness in the weeks leading up to Christmas Eve and Day. Aaron can’t join us, so we postpone the topic I want to cover–defending the prosperity gospel–to discuss why I hate Christmas.
We’re divided. Patrick loves Christmas. Todd likes the holiday but not the hectic weeks before. I conclude that I feel dread for Christmas rather than “hatred.”
The wonder of God becoming human should make me feel more connected to the Christmas story. All three of us comment on the effort it takes to stay focused on Jesus during the Christmas season.
We conclude that giving to those in need is the most rewarding thing we can do. And that’s any time, not just Christmas.
What’s in a word?
We talk about how choosing a word for the year has helped us to grow in our relationship with Jesus. Choosing a word for the year is more effective than making resolutions. It’s a guide to help us focus on areas we want to grow. My word for 2017 is “celebrate.” I hope it helps me do Christmas better next year.
The beers this episode.
The beers we sample in this episode are Sweet Baby Jesus and Aún Más Todo Jesús.
Sweet Baby Jesus is only distributed on the east coast. Todd’s coworker brought some for us while there on business. We were excited to try it because of the name. It was terrible.
The Aún Más Todo Jesús was slightly better, but I was done after a few sips. Next time we will make a point to have better beer.
